I spent a good many years as a single mom on social assistance. Even when I went back to work, it was minimum wage and once I had to top up daycare, we ended up with less each month than when I was fully on SA. Our one food bank was not within walking distance and so if I was lucky I could get bus fare. Bringing bags and sacks to pack home food that 60-70% was not only expired by date alone but was indeed quite off. Food bank is used by many folks and there is a stigma that it's for the lazy. It is NO pic nic going to the foodbank, people that go there, go there because they need it.Healthy, non expired donations are SOOO appreciated!
